Our Enrollment Guidelines
At MMS, we strive for balance in our classrooms. Ideally, our classroom communities resemble our surrounding communities and are equitable representations of all students regarding race, color, national or ethnic origin, socio-economic background, and sex.
Generally, a child is first eligible to enroll in MMS programming around 15-18 months of age, at which time they will be considered for admission to our Ida B. Wells Toddler Community. In general, the child must:

Our Potty Training Policy
Toileting in Toddler (15-36 months): The sensitive period for toileting is between 12 and 20 months; children are most receptive and cooperative with toileting routines between these ages, and waiting later to begin toileting may result in resistance. The Toddler staff will encourage families to begin toilet training between these ages, and will fully support that process at school.
Toileting in Primary (2.5-6 years): A lot of learning is happening in the Primary classroom! For the child’s development to be well-supported, classroom to function, and classroom goals to be met, it is imperative that Primary students are able to, or are actively working towards being able to, toilet independently.
“Toileting independence” means that children are able to feel and respond to their bodily clues the vast majority of the time. In addition to correctly using the potty without an adult’s constant supervision, toileting independence includes dressing and undressing themselves (diaper changes require a guide to leave the classroom, often for extended periods of time in which lessons are being given).
All families of potty-training children will be asked to enter into a toilet training agreement with MMS. MMS requires that families of all potty-training children:
