"The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth."
Dr.
Maria Montessori

MMS aims to instill in our students a sense of respect and responsibility for all local and global communities.
In keeping with that vision, we make every attempt to care for the Earth, while teaching our students the importance of stewardship.
Our staff collaboratively leads our efforts in teaching the importance of environmental stewardship from an early age.

Reuse and Recycle
In alignment with Montessori principles, MMS uses real dishes and cloth napkins to help decrease the use of paper and plastic products. MMS Staff & Students regularly recycle classroom materials.

Less Toxic Materials
We use less-toxic cleaning products to keep MMS clean and sanitized, including alcohol and vinegar.

Gardening and Food
Alongside our stellar volunteer Garden Committee, each of our classes plant and maintain our school garden, where we grow native plants, edible herbs, and surplus produce that we use in our meals.
We compost our food scraps to fertilize our gardens. Our chef prepares our meals and snacks with whole foods that are seasonal, healthy, and local when possible.

Magnolia Montessori School is a 2019 winner of the American Montessori Society's Ursula Thrush Peace Seed Grant.
The grant money helped us buy materials for and build new garden beds and a compost bin. All surplus produce is donated to local organizations who support families experiencing hunger.

Outside Time
We believe that time spent outdoors is vital to the growth and development of our students and their relationship to nature. Our guides lead regular walks through the woods that line our campus. All classrooms spend time outside daily except in the most inclement weather.
Magnolia Montessori School does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, clients, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors, and partners.
